Navigil’s Wearable Telecare Solution Keeps Your Loved Ones Safe

-Easy to Use Solution Featuring a Stylish Wristwatch Packed with Mobile Phone and Location Features

Espoo, Finland – September 10, 2014 – Navigil, a specialist in white label telecare and personal safety solutions, today unveiled a new benchmark in the wearable telecare market. Navigil Rafael service and S1 wearable personal safety wristwatch offer an unprecedented combination of desirable industrial design, ease of use and affordability.

The S1 wristwatch features an array of sophisticated technology including an integrated mobile phone, GPS/Glonass positioning and Bluetooth low energy connectivity. The Rafael service features industry benchmark reachability services for alarm call routing, location services, and management. The solution is designed to enhance the safety of people in need of assistance in their daily lives, both at home and outdoors.

Navigil S1 enables its wearer to live normally in her or his home, while caregivers are able to react instantly when help is needed. With a single press of a button the S1 places an alarm call and sends a location report. The Rafael service routes the alarm calls to the designated caregiver and in case of his/her unavailability to an alternative caregiver or a call centre. S1 can also automatically alert and provide location information to caregivers in the event that a person suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia has gone wandering.

“Most telecare products currently in the market resemble devices used in a hospital setting, labelling their users as patients,” says Matti Räty, CEO at Navigil. “When developing the S1, we focused on packaging our ultra-low power technology and telecare specific features into a stylishly designed casing, and the result looks like a regular analogue watch with real watch hands. The benefit is that it is much easier to get a person to wear the watch all the time, as it should be.”

Navigil Rafael reachability service enables caregivers to easily share the workload among them and in unavailability situations get the call picked up by a professional call centre. A wandering Alzheimer’s disease or dementia sufferer can be located within minutes after an alert using constantly updated location information. “Our R&D team has made significant advances in making the system very easy to use”, says Matti Räty. “Caregiver workload is further reduced as device charging related activity is minimized by the very long battery life and easy to use charging dock.”

The S1 is managed via a web based Rafael location and management service, which provides an easy way to manage all settings and upgrades remotely.

“We see a huge growing global market for our telecare solution. There are more than 10 million elderly persons and 5 million dementia sufferers in the EU who require assistance but want to stay in their homes as long as they can. Our Rafael and S1 are key parts of the solution that addresses the global social care resource challenge. This is a major business opportunity for Navigil’s tele care and lone worker service partners“, says Ossi Pohjola, Chairman of the Board at Navigil.

“Navigil S1 is the only product in the telecare market that has all the features that our customers need. We see it replacing traditional landline telecare phones that we currently offer. A watch is much more likely to be worn than current pendants and tracking devices”, says Mrs. Claire Bennett, Forestcare Manager, Bracknell Forest Council, UK.

“Navigil S1 appears to have the features that our telecare customers have been asking for. None of the currently available solutions in the market have that match. We expect that our active customers will be pleased to wear a stylish wristwatch like S1 – they have been waiting for a device that doesn’t label them as a person in need of help. S1 has the potential of becoming a powerful tool that enables us to strengthen our leading market position”, says Marja Aarnio-Isohanni, CEO at Esperi Care, the leading private social care and independent living services company in Finland.
