New product family with UBI-specific features includes updated TD230 OEM Tracker and all-new ultra slim PT220 Portable Tracker
Navigil, an original design manufacturer of programmable, rebrandable and over-the-air updatable tracking devices, today introduced two new tracking devices specifically designed for Usage-Based Insurance (UBI). The new products feature cost-efficient do-it-yourself installation, 100 Hz on-board collision sensor reporting and fully configurable reporting rules.
The new UBI products are ultra low power TD230 OEM Tracker for UBI with updated firmware and all-new credit card-sized PT220 Portable Tracker for UBI. Both devices are built to cater for the needs of UBI service providers as well as car rental, leasing and fleet management companies. Programmable features enable quick time to market with new and differentiated offerings.
With Navigil UBI Trackers, service providers and insurance companies gain reliable and highly accurate information for improved customer service, risk-based cost calculation and fraud prevention, with minimal investments in device infrastructure and installation. A simple peel-and-stick method allows customers to quickly install the tracking devices in vehicles or other valuable items themselves, without the need for a costly and time consuming visit to a mechanic.
Navigil UBI Trackers periodically send reports on items affecting insurance price: distance driven, time of driving and zones in which driven. Adaptively collected up to 100 Hz resolution acceleration and swerving data can be used for driver behavior scoring and collision analysis. An extra benefit is the ability to receive alerts if a vehicle crosses national or other predefined borders.
In case of collision, the Navigil tracking devices automatically save and send detailed sensor and location data before, during and after accidents. Immediate first notice of loss (FNOL) information is followed up with more accurate, 100 Hz resolution 3D accelerometer and 3D gyroscope data on the event. Configurable alerts and reports greatly assist post-collision investigations and help locate stolen or misused vehicles.
“In order to make UBI a main stream insurance business the tracking device needs to be customer installable, very affordable and reliably provide highly quality data”, comments Matti Räty, President and CEO of Navigil. “TD230 and PT220 meet this criteria, enabling insurance companies and service providers to make bold moves in the market with minimal investment into devices and infrastructure.”
Navigil’s UBI firmware and configurable reporting allows UBI service providers to get to the market in a matter of weeks. Higher-level customization is enabled with extensive software development kit (SDK) libraries. Over the air upgradable firmware includes the ability to control Navigil’s industry benchmark multi-dimensional geofence functionality, enabling the launch of alerts, reports and functional scripts based on any combination of longitude, latitude, time, speed and direction data.
Navigil’s embedded intelligence and in-device processing ensure that only relevant data is sent out. The results are significant savings on wireless data transfer and minimized back office server costs. High level of data integrity guarantees message delivery and privacy of the user – exact location reports are only sent in case of collision and the data is only available for the insurance provider or car rental company.
Navigil TD230 OEM Tracker for UBI and PT220 Portable Tracker for UBI will be commercially available in June 2013. Please refer to www.navigil.com for detailed technical documentation.
Note to Editors: Navigil representatives will be attending the Telematics Insurance conference in UK on May 7-8th and will be available to showcase their entire product line.
