TIVIT, the strategic centre for science, technology and innovation in Finland, has started a new business ecosystem program to commercialize novel information security solutions. The Data to Security (D2S) business ecosystem builds on the strong collaboration between the main parties within TIVIT’s Future Internet research program. Focusing on information security technologies, the target of the ecosystem program is to create new businesses for the parties by collaborating in development of data analysis methods and algorithms, allowing the application of advanced data mining technologies to information security solutions.

"It's a tough job to keep up with the ever-changing online attacks", says F-Secure's CRO Mikko Hyppönen, "That's why we need co-operation and collaboration."

Botnets are a known problem for the Internet. With the ever-growing use of smartphones, this threat is becoming increasingly critical for mobile Internet users and service providers.

Five Finnish companies form the D2S business ecosystem: Elisa, Exfo, F-Secure, Nokia Siemens Networks, and Stonesoft. Through this consortium the program will create a comprehensive system level approach, combining the user device and network views. This will enable new and improved information security solutions, especially in the area of botnet detection and mitigation.

The program duration is planned for 28 months. In addition to the partner companies’ own investments, the program is financially supported by the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation Tekes.
