Marimekko partners with Nitor and Hi Shine – aiming for a unique digital customer experience

Finnish lifestyle design company Marimekko has chosen Nitor and Hi Shine as its partners to develop a new digital channel. The project, which started in January 2025, combines Nitor’s software expertise with Hi Shine’s creative and brand development expertise.

Nitor and Hi Shine will collaborate on the concept, design, and technical implementation of Marimekko’s upcoming digital channel. Marimekko aims to offer its global customer base a new way to interact with the brand, further enhancing the customer experience.

“We were impressed by the dedication, creativity, and high-level technological expertise of Nitor and Hi Shine. They demonstrated a deep understanding of Marimekko’s brand, industry, and customer experience development. Nitor and Hi Shine offered an approach that combines creativity with a solid technological foundation in an interesting way,” says Jarno Kartela, Marimekko’s Director of Digital Commerce & Experience.

For Nitor, developing Marimekko’s new digital channel is a strategically significant step in advancing the company’s ecosystem and strengthening its position internationally. Hi Shine is a creative technology agency and an associated company of Nitor, established in January 2024.

“It is wonderful to work with an iconic brand like Marimekko. The project brings together the expertise of Nitor and Hi Shine in the best possible way: creative digital product design and world-class engineering skills. Unique products cannot be created without close collaboration between the designer and the craftsman, whether it is textiles, kitchenware, or digital products,” says Ville Himberg, Nitor’s Chief Commercial Officer.

Marimekko has recently renewed its online store using state-of-the-art solutions. The technology platform’s composable commerce approach enables a more personalised and competitive customer experience. The pioneering technology choices allow for faster and more cost-effective development of new channels and functionalities.

“In a competitive market, brands must actively find new ways to conduct business and build relationships with consumers. The new generation of consumers who have grown up surrounded by advertising are not just looking for interesting products – but also, for communities and meaningful experiences. Together, we are building Marimekko’s universe to encourage exploration, spending time, and creating genuine connections,” describes Matilda Kivelä, Hi Shine’s Strategy Director.

Marimekko’s criteria for partner selection included technical capabilities, design and concept expertise, and team compatibility, among other things. Nitor and Hi Shine also received praise for the creative team’s active and collaborative working style.
